Origins

It all started off with a designer not being able to find in the shops or on "t'internet" a picture for her kitchen wall which didn't cost the earth! So she screen printed her own, as you do. Having printed more than one (15 to be exact), she wondered what to do with the rest (her kitchen wall was only so big). Friends and family liked what they saw and wanted some too. Then the requests came in - "can you screen print a picture of my dog?", "Do you have any prints in a size to fit a favourite frame of mine?" etc...

Then the designer was fed up using plastic bags and wanted some stylish canvas ones to use instead (to help save the world) so she printed her own. Again people remarked on the nice bag and where could they buy one.... and so the idea of setting up a website was born.

And so a variety of hobbies and craft making skills were turned into the reality of a thriving business venture.

Golcar House

Although originally from Scotland, the designer lives in an area called Golcar in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.  The name Golcar House seemed to be a good fit for the handmade products we sell.

Inspiration

Being a fully fledged fashion designer for over 10 years, inspiration is found in current fashion trends, the world of art & design and popular culture. Also a slight addiction to house and interior magazines means that the ideas just keep on coming.

Handmade

As much as we love IKEA, it does get a tad embarrassing when you visit friends houses and feel like you've not left your own living room as it looks remarkably similar. One thing Golcarhouse is proud of is not being mass produced. All of our items are either limited editions or one offs. We get bored making the same thing again and again you see and we have simply too many ideas that we have to move on to the next one.....

Environment

Our items are made in the UK and wherever possible we source products locally to make our carbon footprints small baby ones instead of big scarey monster ones.

Personal Touch

If you want a print you can't find in the shops, or to match a certain colour (your favourite underpants?) then please get in touch and we'll see what we can do. Perhaps you have a theme in mind or you'd like a portrait of your pet goldfish in glorious technocolour.... we aim to please.
